Internal Medicine

Our Internal Medicine and Oncology team manage complex medical conditions and cancers

We deal with diseases and disorders involving multiple organ systems such as:

  • The gastrointestinal tract and pancreas
  • The liver
  • The respiratory system
  • The endocrine system (hormones)
  • The kidneys and urinary tract
  • And the blood and circulatory system

As Internal Medicine specialists we act as detectives solving medical puzzles. We are in an optimal position to do this due to our state of the art facilities and equipment available for diagnostic investigations and hospitalisation.

Meet The Internal Medicine Team

Our cohesive medicine team is composed of internationally recognised specialists in canine and feline Internal Medicine as well as Residents, Interns and dedicated nurses who have learned and developed the specific skills required for the management of complex cases.

Having a well-staffed service puts us in a comfortable position to manage, without delay, routine, urgent and emergency cases.

Internal Medicine Facilities

  • On-site Laboratory
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Endoscopy Suite
  • Chemotherapy

On-site Laboratory

Our on-site laboratory provides rapid results for the most commonly requested blood and urinary tests, as well as multiple off-site laboratories across the country and world, carefully selected for their individual expertise.

Diagnostic Imaging

Our diagnostic imaging service provides our internal medicine clinicians with incredible resources that provide invaluable contribution towards achieving accurate diagnoses for our patients. Our diagnostic imaging services comprises skilled clinicians and technicians as well as quality equipment such as MRI, CT and ultrasonography equipment.

Endoscopy Suite

Our well-equipped endoscopy suite is used every day for the evaluation of gastrointestinal, respiratory and urinary tract conditions. We have an excellent working relationship with the soft tissue surgery service founded on a mutual desire to achieve the best possible outcome for our patients.

Strong communication between the two services allows us to determine the optimal course of action and combine the benefits of both a medical and surgical approach to the management of a case. This is particularly important for patients diagnosed with tumours as well as critically ill patients and can certainly make the difference between a successful and unsatisfactory outcome.

Chemotherapy

A significant part of the work in the internal medicine and oncology service is to diagnose and treat various types of cancers. A number of cancers can benefit from chemotherapy. An experienced team of nurses assist in the administration of chemotherapy to our patients. Providing support to owners of dogs and cats undergoing treatment for cancer is a priority as this can be a challenging time for families affected.

Referring An Internal Medicine Case To Pride Veterinary Centre

Many conditions and diseases seen in the patients attending the internal medicine and oncology service are chronic and require attentive follow-up. For that purpose, we realise the importance of working in close collaboration with the primary veterinarians who have referred their patients to us.

We strive to provide prompt and complete communication with referring veterinarians as this is essential to ensure that this follow-up is flawless. Depending on the circumstances, the follow-up will be done at Pride Veterinary Centre or at the primary veterinary practice. In the latter situation, we will be happy to help if any questions or concerns arise during the follow-up process.
